Veterinary, Medical, & Scientific Illustrations
Kristen was born in August of 1992 in Washington, D.C. and has subsequently lived in Southern Maryland for her entire life. Ever since she was in grade school she's always had an interest in art. She remembers back in Tia Judy’s Spanish class she wasn’t able to do a lot of the written homework assignments very well. Tia Judy recognized that and she allowed her to draw and illustrate many of those assignments to help her get through the class. Grade school was the beginning of her art career, but she didn’t realize she was capable until much later in college.
Kristen graduated from the University of Maryland in 2014 with a degree in Animal Science with the intentions to go on to veterinary school. In her third year of undergraduate studies she found a passion for fine art and learned of the field of medical illustration. She spent two years at the Schuler School of Fine Arts honing her techniques and learning new ones.
She then continued her education and earned her masters in medical illustration at the Rochester Institute of Technology. With her masters she plans to combine her love for animals and science with art and provide the veterinary community with new teaching and learning materials. In her free time Kristen enjoys training horses, teaching riding lessons, playing basketball, and photography.
Thanks to my fine art training, I can employ lots of different mediums. Anything from traditional charcoal or watercolors to digital and 3D modeling programs. I am also well versed in photography if that fits your needs instead.
Animals have always been a huge part of my life, as my mother is a veterinarian herself, so that passion has rubbed off on me. I really enjoy learning about every animal species I come across and to be able to combine such a passion with science and art is a dream come true.
